Waders

This Sanderling will soon be heading fr Iceland after spending moat of the winter at Newbiggin or close by. Ringed in Iceland 2016

This Godwit (with a Knot) was ringed in 2010 (Dutch Waddensea) and this sighting at Newbiggin is the first since then. This is pretty amazing since it has so many colour rings on?

This Whimbrel was also at Newbiggin and looked fantastic without any 'bling'.

A Very Busy Week

The first of a flurry of posts no doubt (be warned).

As some summer visitors are just arriving the local populations are swelling 

This little duckling dived away from the Black-headed Gull and eventually caught up with Mum (see below). Phew!

If you're wondering why they were in the middle of the water, well it was all down to a dog while its owners were blissfully unaware.

Three broods of Stonechats (3,3 and 2) this week. Still more to come in next few days I'm certain.

Eventually caught up with Yellow Wagtails.

Amazed to pick this out amongst large flocks of waders. I wonder if it is the bird which wintered nearby?

Migrant dropping in all the time. Sedge Warbler, Wheatears, Ring Ouzels (4), Pied Flycatcher, Willow Warblers, Blackcaps and my third Osprey of the year.
