After a morning searching the dunes from Hadston to Cresswell. I settled at home to do the crossword and complete some half done jobs, I noticed RBS seen at Druridge. Having dipped several birds through laziness this week, I decided to go straight down ... and fairly quickly, with the help of HG, managed a few snaps and good views. It was very mobile due to the number of birders, photographers and weekend visitors.

I was delighted to get a text from AC alerting me to the B-b S. Found by a visitor to the area, thanks whoever your are! The last one I saw was at East Chevington, when the South pool was an attractive site for waders.

Common Terns

Birders in Northumberland will now start to turn their interests to butterflies and Dragons. However, there is still time for some surprising bird finds.

With builders/plumbers creating my new bathroom, I still managed a little birding last week and there was plenty to hold the interest. Displaying Ruff, GWE still in the bay and thanks to MW my first Arctic Tern.

Plenty of Activity in the reedbed.

Still no Cuckoo or Greenshank for the patch. Might catch-up on some inland birds if I can tear myself away from the painting.

Following my 22 Brent Geese flying North at Newbiggin yesterday (05/092015) a single Brent flew from the North Pool this morning.

Thanks to JA for the location of these Black Darters. These are amazing to watch but the photos don't do them justice.

Amazingly I had seen none of the above until a couple of quad bikers rode through the place I was was watching?

Nearby a large patch of Scabious was awash with Bees and Butterflies

Good also to meet local birder Alan on his local patch.

Oh, and the local Shark remains stranded in the Power Station Lagoon.

South then North

Penshaw Monument, County Durham.

A family visit including a walk around Herrington Country Park made a nice change. The weather was overcast which was a shame because I bet the pools are good for dragonflies.

Aftrnoon and I was back on the Northumbeland coast photographimg Butterflies and Moths.

Breezy

Druridge was alive with small birds this morning. Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Grasshopper Warbler, Willow Warbler, Chffchaff and Sedge Warbler all showing well. A Whinchat at the entrance; one of a number seen along the coast this weekend.

East Chevington was relatively quiet but a steady trickle of waders in and out. Especially Black-tailed Godwits, two flocks of 15 and several singles. (Other waders present 7 Ruff, 2 Greenshank, Common and Green Sand, Dunlin and a singe Bar-tailed Godwit.)
