A brief visit to Saltholme RSPB on Thursday (9th) was rewarded with some special sightings. Firstly a Merlin (although distant) gave great views through the telescope.
This fly past was interesting. KC390 and I guess it belongs to the Portuguese Air Force (Forca Aerea). Apologies for the smudge, it is somewhere inside the camera.
Then my highlight of the day.
Weasel
I see lots of Stoats and even manage the odd snap, but Weasels I have difficulty seeing and photographing. So to find this one scampering around outside the wildlife watchpoint hide was a treat.
They move very fast so in the end I was very happy with these snaps.
Oh and a Water Rail at East Chevington on Friday, Kingfisher, 3 Otters, a Chiffchaff and Cetti's Warbler today

ReplyDeleteNorthumberland Wildlife Trust’s Catch My Drift project has received a fantastic early Christmas present thanks to very generous shoppers in Amble and Hadston.
Each year the Co-op Group chooses a new list of local causes to support throughout the UK and this year (2021) the Catch My Drift project based on Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s East Chevington nature reserve was selected to receive member funds.
The three-year Catch My Drift project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is working towards protecting and reviving threatened habitats and providing refuge for different species on the 185-hectare site at Druridge Bay. It is also making access improvements to allow everyone the opportunity to experience nature.
Nice to know access to the L shaped hide is good, supposedly.
I've not been down to Saltholme for 3 years mevvies but i used to regularly see Weasels in and around the car park over by the portacabin hide on visits !!
First Weasel I've seen. Usually go to Saltholme once a month and combine it with walk along Greatham creek. Could spend a lot of time there if I lived closer.
